VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE PINK PIG – TAMIYA 1/10 MF-01X

Since only one was built, the Porsche 917/20 is like a Ford T, anyone can have a 917/20 any colour he wants so long as it is pig pink.

Kit is Tamiya 58650, VW Beetle Rally. Chassis building was straightforward, you can find all about it when the MF-01X gave a 4 wheels drive to the Giulia Gta.

Letters size of the german cuts of pork is a tradeoff between the real car and what I know I can do without getting bored after just few words. Actually letters should to be smaller. Some decal manifacturers offer a complete set with RIPPLE (the same on the real modern 911 RSR)  but after watching some shots in the Porsche Museum I realize it’s RIPPE (rib).

Preparation and the whole array of words cut in adhesive paper

Cutting all the words is pretty time consuming. When tape didn’t follow the wheelarches, well, some paint goes over. After spraying all the words I’ve masked the lines then I’ve dashed them with tiny bits of the same Tamiya tape. After 4 solid coats of pink I went for a couple of black ones to give a less toyish look.

I didn’t use all the external parts. I left in the box the front bumper and I shortened the blades of the rear one to clear off the words on the wheelarches. Wheels too were painted flat black. Same with decals, I want to keep her clean. The result is pretty rewarding, there’re some minor imperfections but after all not too bad.
